On June 7, 2024, a meeting was held with representatives of the football teams from the district of Mecula, in the province of Niassa. The event had the special presence of the Director of Education and Sports, Luciano Mitimbo, and aimed to strengthen ties between teams, promote collaboration and discuss strategies for the development of sport in the region.
The activity began with a brief introduction from the Director of Education and Sports, who highlighted the importance of sport in personal development, promoting peace and social cohesion among young people. Mitimbo also highlighted the district’s commitment to supporting and encouraging sports practices.
A discussion session followed, where the teams were able to share their experiences, challenges and suggestions to improve sporting conditions and performance in the district. The needs for the sustainability of sports practice were also raised, which currently has ten formal teams.
The Director actively participated in the conversations, listening attentively and providing valuable comments. As an immediate result of the meeting, the starting date of the district championship was announced for June 15th, almost two months late due to structuring and coordination problems between the teams. An interim committee will ensure the organization of the sporting event.
The meeting was considered a great success, promoting unity and collaboration between the district’s sports teams. The presence and support of the Director of Education and Sports were crucial in strengthening the commitment to sports development.
Following this meeting, the local government invited the MASC Foundation to revitalize all water management committees, integrating its target groups into these decision-making spaces. It was also possible to discuss and invite the local government to collaborate with the MASC Foundation in the use of planning and community consultation tools, such as Mapas de Sonhos. The government appeared excited and ready to, together with the MASC Foundation, put into practice all the proposed actions.
The president of the municipal council also spoke, showing openness to, together with the MASC Foundation and its entire team, implementing the action plan.
